Ready to learn how to be faster at rigging, a stronger rower, or more confident about rowing and the equipment involved? Start right here by making your choice from the options below.
Q: I’m new to rowing and rigging… help!
A: Inhale. Exhale. Take a deep breath. We all start from the beginning, and you’ll get the hang of this soon enough. I recommend you take a look at articles on my blog, videos on my YouTube channel, and check out my comprehensive guide, the Nuts and Bolts Guide to Rigging.
Q: Where can I find your best info?
A: My Nuts and Bolts Guide to Rigging is the go-to guide for rowers, coaches, and scullers, and I’m proud to say that it’s been the best-selling guide to rigging for years. You can check it out here.
I’ve also written several workbooks on rowing topics for rowers, coxswains and coaches. Check out my store to see them all.
Q: You say there are two things to watch out for when picking rigging numbers. What are they?
A: First, be very, Very, VERY wary of specific non-range-type numbers in rigging tables and charts. The reason being that those numbers may be totally useless for you and your rigging, and, in fact, might be downright dangerous.
For example, a rigging chart produced from the rigging of the men’s eights rowed at the 2016 World Championships gives the numbers that those folks rowed at that regatta. But “those folks” are well-trained, high-performance athletes, of very homogeneous traits, who execute at the upper end of human abilities.
Second, know how measurements were taken! There’s not much controversy in rigging, but if you’re going to see an argument, it’s probably going to be over the topic of measuring things. Many times different folks measure the same distance differently.
Q: Do you offer coaching or consulting services?
A: Absolutely. Whether you’re new to rowing, part of a team, a rowing coach, or a staff member of a college or university, I offer one-on-one coaching, group consulting, and clinics or presentations custom-fitted to your needs.
I also offer private consultations for rowers and coaches that need to talk through and solve a problem, such as with rigging, boat speed, buying equipment, coaching jobs, team management, and more.
