MaxRigging.com is a blog and website aimed at those interested in maximizing their rowing equipment. The equipment I cover is much more than just shells and oars. You will find:
- Useful articles for coaches and rowers. The articles are aimed to help you with all aspects of rowing and rigging.
- A system to help you find the right rigging numbers for you.
- Fresh content added regularly.
- Downloadable special reports
Who Is Mike Davenport?
A little background . . . My rowing equipment experience started as a college freshmen when I tripped over an oar. From that moment on I realized there was something special about rowing equipment—and how it should be treated. Today, I teach busy rowers, distracted coaches, and hassled coxswains about rigging and how to get the most out of their rowing equipment. I also work as a collegiate rowing coach and adjunct professor at Washington College, in Chestertown, Maryland.
My coaching experience extends beyond the collegiate experience realm and onto the National Rowing Team. For two years, I was an assistant coach to the US Pre-Elite Heavyweight team. I spent the summer of 1991 in Cuba as a member of the Pan American team and was a member of the 1992-95 US World Championship teams. I also was a member of the 1996 Olympic Team that competed in Atlanta, GA.
I am one of the founders of SportWork; have authored several books (Nuts and Bolts Guide to Rigging, Excel with the NCAA Bylaws, and Acid Reflux in Infants and Children); have spoken regularly at coaching conferences, workshops, and conventions; and am a primary educational consultant for USRowing.

As a consultant, author, and professional speaker, I hope I show in honest and creative ways how people can use their physical and mental tools and resources to maximize their performance, be faster, save money, and reduce the stress and strain of dealing with rowing equipment. In what some call the “most intensive equipment sport there is” I show many beginners and experts how to thrive.
My books and other websites are well subscribed and include some of the best suggestions, tips, and information about rowing equipment you’ll find. I live in Maryland with my family and two cats (who don’t care much for rowing).

Do you need a practical introduction to rigging and rowing equipment? Simple, specific, and understandable. Or a plan to determine how to purchase or maintain your equipment?
I’ve taught over 100 rigging clinics around the country. Classes have included beginners, experts and those in-between. In those clinics I use a clear, engaging approach to help rowers and coach get through the mystery and misunderstandings about the equipment we use in the sport of rowing.
Learn how, and why, you should maintain, adjust, and transport your gear. Discover the best rigging numbers for you to use, and how to find them. Find out how to not get stressed by rigging, and instead to actually enjoy it.
Here are a few of the ways I can help you:
- Consulting
- Keynote Speaking
- Workshops
- Information products
- Rigging/Equipment Clinics and Seminars
Topics range over a wide spectrum, and can be specifically designed to any needs.
Mistakes in your rigging can be very expensive. They can cause such problems as injury to athletes, equipment breakage, purchase of the wrong equipment, or loss of a race. A consultation may save you time, effort, energy, and money—and possibly a race. If you’d like to discuss arranging a consultation, seminar or talk, and to find out about my pricing, send me an email.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Good morning Mike,
I was just re-reading your book Nuts & Bolts guide to Rigging and noted your web address which I must have missed in the past.
Can you tell me is there any charge for signing up to your site as I can find no mention of money.
I must say as a College coach your book has provided me some good advise in the past and I thought maybe I need to take advantage of your website.
Thanks for your help with this enquiry
regards …. Roy
